A GHL expert is a person or company that claims deep skill with GoHighLevel (GHL), the CRM and marketing automation platform; the title is not regulated, so it means whatever the person says it means. People use "GHL expert", "GHL specialist", "GHL admin", "GHL consultant" and "GHL VA" for overlapping jobs, from someone who installs a template to someone who designs and tests a whole system. HighLevel runs a certification program, listed as a $97 a month add-on on its pricing page, which shows training completed but not the quality of client work. This page explains each title, what a credential does and does not prove, and what to ask before you hire. Checked October 18, 2026.
What is a GHL expert, and what do the other titles mean?
A GHL expert is usually a builder who says they are advanced, and the other titles mean different jobs: a specialist builds and fixes, a consultant audits and advises, an admin runs the account and a developer writes code.
| Title | Usually means | Not necessarily |
|---|---|---|
| GHL expert | A builder who says they are advanced | That they have tested their work or documented it |
| GHL specialist | Builds and fixes inside accounts. See GoHighLevel specialist | Experience across industries |
| GHL consultant | Audits and advises. See GoHighLevel consultant | That they build |
| GHL admin | Runs day-to-day operations in an account | Design skill |
| GHL developer | Writes code against the API. See GoHighLevel developer | CRM or business-process skill |
| GHL VA | A virtual assistant who uses GoHighLevel, often hourly | That they plan systems |
"GHL" is simply the abbreviation for GoHighLevel; see HighLevel vs GoHighLevel for the names.

Does a GoHighLevel certification make someone an expert?
A GoHighLevel certification shows that someone completed HighLevel's program; on its own it does not make them an expert. HighLevel's pricing page lists a "HighLevel Certification Program" at $97 a month, and its certification page describes the training and live proctored exam. That tells you the credential is a paid course, which is a fair thing to complete, but it does not audit anyone's client work. Treat it as one input, and verify it in HighLevel's Certified Admin directory rather than from a badge image. Our guide what a certified GoHighLevel expert badge proves goes through how.
How can you tell a real GHL expert from a self-described one?
A real GHL expert can show a live account with named workflows, explain how they test, hand over documentation and ask about your business before quoting.
- They show a live account with named workflows and execution history.
- They explain how they test, and can show a test log.
- They hand over documentation.
- They ask about your business before they quote.
- They can name a failure and how they fixed it.

What is a GHL VA?
A GHL virtual assistant is an assistant, often remote and paid by the hour, who works in GoHighLevel on tasks you direct: contacts, tags, small edits, inbox management. Published rates for assistants and embedded specialists run from about $10 to $25 an hour (see our agency market study; these are seller-published figures, not HighLevel data, and were not independently verified in October 2026). A VA suits routine work under a plan; they are not a substitute for the plan.
